Margaret Sabados

Margaret Sabados, 88, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville on Sunday, May 31, 2009.Margaret was born April 19, 1921, in Brush, Colorado, to Anthony and Sadie (Witkowski) Abromski. She grew up in Fort Morgan and then attended cosmetology school. She operated her own beauty shop for a number of years before becoming a beautician at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver where she served famous figures such as Mae West and, according to family legend, several prominent gangsters and members of their entourages.Always the adventurer and fisherwoman, Margaret earned the Alaskan state record for a lake trout. In addition to gardening and tending to her roses, she also loved to cook: her annual fish fry was a special event for her friends and family.On June 3, 1971, she married Charles Sabados, Jr. in Dacono. The couple made their home in Dacono until his death in 2001. Very active in her community, she was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Colorado Civil Air Patrol, served as an election judge, and also faithfully supported her husband during his campaigns for public office.She is survived by her partner, Vic Edghill of Longmont; a daughter, Twila Sabados of Colorado Springs, sons, Charles Sabados, III, and wife, Loretta, of Lake Havasu, Arizona; Mark Sabados and wife, Pam, of Longmont, and David Sabados and wife, Julia, of Berthoud; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of extended relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, and three sisters.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services in Longmont. A private inurnment will be held at Foothills Gardens of Memory on Friday.
