

Margaret Mae Kinderknecht Smith of Longmont, CO, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at Longmont United Hospital. She was 79 years old.Born July 22, 1928 in Ellis, KS, the daughter of Joe and Mary (Miller) Kinderknecht. She grew up in Ellis and graduated from Ellis High School in 1946. On July 6, 1947, Margaret married Pete Smith at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Frederick, CO. The couple lived in the rural Mead and Longmont areas until moving into town in 1972. She and her husband loved polka dancing and went with bands for many years.Margaret worked for much of her career as a cook at various Longmont businesses including nearly 26 years at Longmont United Hospital. Even in retirement, she enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and was affectionately known as ?The Cinnamon Roll Lady?. She greatly enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Daughters of Isabella of Ellis, KS, and the Women of the Moose.Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, on October 23, 1996, her parents, a sister, Adeline Day, and three infant sons.She is survived by her children, Robert ?Bob? Smith, Lawrence ?Larry? (Pat) Smith, Peter T. ?Pete? Smith (Rolinda Martindale), Carol (Mark) Nitzel, and Linda (Mike) Gail, all of Longmont; a brother, Tom Kinderknecht of Ellis; seven grandchildren, Jeri, Amanda, Julie, Cody, Brandon, Breanna, and Makayla; five great grandchildren, Seth, Alec, Ashley, Matthew and Zachary; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Howe Mortuary from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 with a vigil service to begin 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the vigil service. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at New Creation Church with Pastor Mario Latini officiating.
