
Mary Elizabeth Cook Redd (Bette) passed away January 28, 2013 at her granddaughter's home. She was 86.Bette was born August 30, 1926 in Decatur, Georgia to Otis and Augusta Mae (Pounds) Cook. She was the first daughter after five sons born to Otis and Gussie Mae Cook. Bette graduated from Dalton High School in 1943. She then attended La Grange Junior College and finished at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a degree in chemistry.On August 28, 1948 she married Henry E. Redd.Together they moved to Longmont, CO in 2012 from Houston, TX.Bette was a medical technician for the State of Virginia for the first five years of their marriage before giving birth to twin girls, followed by another daughter two years later. She then devoted her working years to taking care of her husband and family.Bette accepted Christ in 1971 and joined the San Dieguito Bible Church in Encinitas, CA. She was involved with Bible Study Fellowship in California and Texas for many years. In Texas she was a charter member of the Kingwood Bible Church, present at its first meeting at the Bumblebee Nursery in Forest Cove, TX.Bette was very devoted to her family. In later years she took trips with medical teams to Latin American countries to translate for doctors. As grandchildren came of age, she took them along with her on these trips. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and as an Awanas leader finally retiring when she was 76.She was preceded in death by her husband Henry E. Redd and her parents.Bette is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Cook (Brent) Bromstrup, Mary Louise Redd (Hubert) Smith, and Carey (Tom) Hovestol; her brother James Carlos Cook of Dalton, GA; her sister Augusta Cook Markley of Staunton, VA; eleven grandchildren Amanda (Alex) Velasco, Ashley Bromstrup, Thaddeus Bromstrup, Bridget Bromstrup, Ian Henry (Bethany) Smith, Peter Smith, Nathan Hovestol, Christina (Iain) Bryant, Susanna (Marshall) Meringola, Priscilla (Brandon) Dodsworth and Seth Hovestol; and five great-grandchildren Santiago, Oliver, Brielle, Evangeline, and Silas Henry.Memorial service 1:30 PM Friday February 1, 2013 at Calvary Church.
