Mary Louise Redmond (nee Kalnin), of Longmont, CO, passed away peacefully January 5, 2019 surrounded by her husband Tom of 52 years, and her beloved children David and Alexis. Mary started her life in LaGrange, Maine on September 29, 1939. At the age of five she and her family relocated to Southern California where she completed her school years. Mary's father was an educator which allowed the family to spend summers in Maine, a tradition Mary and Tom and their family continued until her recent illness. After graduating high school, Mary went to the Kansas City Art Institute. Her love of art lasted throughout her life including visiting museums throughout the world and acquiring special pieces to surround herself with at home. Travel was a significant passion of Mary's, which she pursued both in her career as an international flight attendant (called stewardess at the time) and with her husband Tom and special traveling friends including her best friend of 30+ years, Karen Kanemoto. One of Mary's most memorable trips was to Alsace-Lorraine where she and Tom bicycled the countryside enjoying the scenery, history, and people. Mary's favorite place of all though was Hawaii, where she and Tom met, married and lived as newlyweds. Her Christian faith was very important to her. She was a longstanding member of LifeBridge Christian Church and prayer and bible study were an integral part of her daily life. Mary and Tom completed numerous international mission trips together and, in addition to serving on the boards of multiple charitable organizations, Mary also opened her home and mentored many young women in times of need. Mary was widely known for her hospitality and her food. She could cook anything and it would be delicious including her famous orange rolls and breads. Her recipe repertoire included dishes from her Latvian roots stemming from her paternal grandparents who made the journey from Europe to America and she embraced the farm to table philosophy decades before it was popular. She actively supported local Longmont farm stands in her search for the freshest asparagus, corn, Colorado peaches, and tomat s.In addition to her husband and two children, Mary is survived by her daughter-in-law Staci, four granddaughters, a grandson, brother Peter, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank their friends, neighbors, and church community for all the love and support given to Mary and the family during her illness.Friends and community are invited to a reception in her honor on Saturday, January 26 at LifeBridge Church in Longmont at 2 PM. As per Mary's wishes, a private memorial service will be held with her family. Mary will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, located at the Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu, Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mary's favorite organization, Life Choices Pregnancy Center of Longmont, or a charitable organization of your choice.
