Max Duane Fanning

Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Max Fanning.

Max Duane Fanning was given life by his Creator and was born on April 27, 1941, in Denver, Colorado, the child of John and Sylvia Fanning. He received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. He publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed and received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. On November 23, 1961 he received the gift of a beloved companion in his spouse, Karen Eileene Weimer to whom he was married for 61 years. He and Karen were blessed with the gift of children, a son Michael and a daughter Melanie. God blessed Max’s life with many special people as he served God in his vocation for 35 years with the Colorado Department of Transportation retiring as a Senior Highway Foreman in the Boulder County, Colorado, area. He also served at Eternal Savior Lutheran Church in Lafayette, Colorado, as an Elder and on the Board of Trustees. Finally, on October 7, 2026, God blessed Max with a holy death and took him to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.

He is survived by his brother, John Fanning; his daughter Melanie (Kevin) Vezzani; his daughter-in-law, Tina Fanning; his grandchildren, Megan (Christian) Schinbeckler, Sarah Fanning, Max Vezzani, Joseph Vezzani, and Isabella Vezzani. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen; and his son Michael Fanning. Max enjoyed fishing, gardening, and old cars. Max was a loving caregiver to his wife Karen. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was eager to lend a hand to care for them.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother Max Fanning.

Funeral services will be held for Max on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 11:00am at Eternal Savior Lutheran Church in Lafayette Colorado.
