

On a beautiful snowy morning, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maxine Loretta Beldt, died at home on January 5, 2014 in Longmont, Colorado. She was 95 years old. She was born May 23, 1918 in Des Moines, Iowa to Francis H. and Mary Frances Shepard. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and worked at Rollin's Hosiery Mill and then at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 10 years prior to her marriage. She met her future husband on a blind date while stationed in northwest Iowa, as a substitute operator during the telephone strike of 1947. She married Milford William Beldt on November 20, 1947, at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Sheldon, Iowa, then in Marysville, Kansas before moving to Longmont in March, 1955. She was deeply devoted to her family, always placing her family's needs first. Her most joyous memories revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. At 83, she and her husband provided daycare for their 1st great-grandson, Nathan, for 3 years. Her wonderful Irish sense of humor was a delight to her family and friends. She loved family celebrations, loved to travel, especially to visit family, and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. John's Altar and Rosary Society, the Studebaker Drivers Club and American Ex-POWs. She is survived by 4 daughters, Joann of Longmont, Phyllis and her husband Dale Marttila of Milliken, Kathleen and her husband Les Adams of Loveland, and Rosemary and her husband Ron Harber of Loveland; 2 sons, Richard and his wife Shirley of Lakewood, and Joseph of Longmont.In addition, she is survived by her 8 grandchildren: Mark, Gwen, Katie, Tina, Chad, Tammy, Marilyn, and Anthony; 6 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Dylan, Melissa; Kaylee, Londyn, Wyatt, and 2 great-grandbabies due in June and August of 2014, in addition to numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milford, a son, James, and a daughter, Elaine, in addition to her parents, 8 sisters and 3 brothers. Visitation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 9th, at 6:30 p.m. followed by rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Longmont on Friday, January 10th, at 11:00 a.m. Reception at St. Francis will follow internment at Mountain View Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
