

Michael Henry Elgin died April 20, 2007 at his home after a courageous battle with melanoma cancer. He was 53 years young.Mike was born on September 4, 1953 in Centerville, Iowa to Jack B. Elgin and Joanne Brown Elgin. He attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a BA in art with an emphasis in teaching and a lifelong connection with his beloved Hawkeyes. On November 25, 1978 he married Lora Lee Polfer in Iowa City, Iowa. The Elgins made their move to Colorado in 1979, where they would make their home together.Mike and his wife Lora were proprietors of Uncle Mike?s Colorado BBQ in Longmont. Mike spent a number of years in the grocery industry beginning with The Corner Pantry and later King Soopers. Always having a passion for food, art and entertainment, he opened up his catering business, ?Just Me Catering? in 2001. He opened Uncle Mike?s Colorado BBQ on south Sunset, before moving to his full service establishment at 1114 Francis St., in October 2006. Preceding him in death was his father.Surviving are his wife Lora of Longmont, Colorado, his son Dallas of Las Vegas, Nevada, his mother Jody of Centerville, Iowa, his sister Jackie Nagell and her husband Dan of Longmont, Colorado and his brother John and his wife Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.A cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with The Reverend Brian Morrow officiating.Memorials may be made to the Live Strong Foundation or the charity of your choice c/o Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO 80501.
