I am truly at a loss for words. I just found out about Michael because I still thought about him over the years and wondered how he was after he moved to Colorado. He always helped me when I had computer issues and was always a kind and a sweet friend. Everytime I walk by your childhood home in Simi, I think of you! RIP!

My favorite memory of Michael is him waking me up at 4:00 AM and driving me in my old van to the trailhead for Longs Peak. Sitting in the passenger seat for the first time… racing up the mountain in the dark… I was scared to death. We hiked almost to the peak where hikers crowded the final exposed part of the trail. He asked if I wanted to summit, I asked if he did, and we agreed to head home. We almost jogged back - at one point leaving the trail to dance down the tops of some giant boulders. Seeing him as a happy healthy young man… being able to share our love for the van and our love for the mountains was as good as it gets. I will always remember him there.

Michael spent a few weeks with us at Lake Tahoe when he was ten and my daughter was three.  Michael was in a speech and language program at school, and I was working as a speech and language pathologist. And so Michael and I did a summer project.
  
He also roped me into taking him fishing—something I knew nothing about.  Nevertheless, one day we went over to the Truckee River with a pole and hooks and bait, and despite the odds, Michael caught his fish!  I still remember the excitement in his voice when he got on the phone and told his mother, “Mom!! I caught a fish!”

At the end of his project, I wrote a report for him, listing his accomplishments and concluding  “I am proud of you.  You have practiced over 11,000 things with me!  And you’re a boy who can catch a fish, build a bird feeder, and shoot an arrow straight and far.”

And now Michael has completed his Hero’s Journey.  And what an extraordinary path he forged, with courage, and real strength.  I am aware that he had the challenges of growing up with a language disorder. And Michael also had genius—not only his brilliance in technology, but also the gentle nurturing spirit that shined through the life he built.  The nurturing, love and generosity he brought to the world.  What an amazing life he lived.

The world is bleeping hard, and I don’t know why any of us signs up in the first place.  Except for the beauty we can find, and live and create along the way.  

In my heart I know that Michael is at Peace, and more:  Immersed in the Love that is the very energy of Creation.  I keep reminding myself that people who have had near-death experiences—those who have clinically died and been resuscitated —report an experience so inexpressibly beautiful that they did not want to come back.  And my diverse, geeky spiritual teachings are unanimous in affirming that our loved ones are still present, and with us, and want us to know that. 

Well done, Michael.  We love you and miss you, and honor you.  You know that.

I had the great pleasure to work with Michael at Front Range Orthopedics. He and I partnered up on many projects that were often times out of our scope which we together accomplished with success. We always had a wonderful time together, often, laughing a lot.  I’m so shocked and saddened by his passing. He was a kind and intelligent and loved. My heart goes out to his family.

My heart hurts for you for your loss. May wonderful memories of Michael comfort & sustain you.

We remember Michael first as an adorable child, and later as a beautiful man and father.  We grieve for Martha and Phil and Michael's larger family.  This Native American thought comes to mind:  "It is important to honor our beginnings, to remember that we matter, and that we have a place in the world that no one else has."

Dear Martha,  Words cannot express my sadness for you and your family.  I never had the chance to know your son but you spoke of him with such pride.  Prayers for you and your family

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know Michael loved his family and enjoyed his time with you. He was such a great help to me at Front Range Orthopedics.  From setting up a new phone, music for the OR’s, more computers as we grew, dumping salt in the softener, trimming trees, and helping maintain the facility, even shoveling snow! In true IT fashion he always asked, “did you try turning it off and on again?”  He was missed in so many ways and now will be missed even more!

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Please know that my heart aches for you, and I can't imagine the pain you must be going through. Michael was a wonderful person, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. If there's anything I can do to help or if you just need someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to reach out. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Michael will be missed so much by so many people.  I feel honored to have known him .  I worked with Him for many years and he was always smiling and willing to help.

Michael was so smart with so much to give! He was so influential to my son James. James expressed to me how much he learned from Michael and how much he is going to miss him! Thank you for teaching my son valuable lessons! And thank you for the chickens!

My heart is heavy with the news of Michael's passing.  Working with Michael was a blessing in many ways.  He was always supportive and willing to help, especially during Covid.  He will be missed.  My deepest sympathies to his family,
