Michael Martinez

Michael ""Mike"" Martinez, Sr., of Erie, died February 5, 2007 at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital, Lafayette. He was 49.Mike was born on November 27, 1957 in Longmont to Romolo Martinez and Virginia Dominguez. He grew up in Erie attending schools there.After finishing school, he joined the US Army, serving in Germany during his enlistment.He married Geraldine Martinez on May 1, 1971 in Longmont.After returning from the service, he began a long career in the construction field, mainly drywall framing. Mr. Martinez enjoyed taking family road trips and camping trips. His time with his grandchildren was especially relished. Preceding him in death was his father.Surviving are his wife, two sons Michael Martinez, Jr. and Carlos Martinez, two daughters Vaness Chavez and her husband Jose of Thornton and Marissa Martinez; his mother and step father Virginia and Manuel Rodriquez two brothers Rocky Martinez and Barney Martinez and his wife Carol Lujan and four sisters Elaine Quesada and her husband Henry, Lucy Martinez and her husband Manuel, Margie Martinez and Josie Rodriguez all of Erie; and 8 grandchildren Elyssa, Ashley, Estevan, and Jayton Chavez, Christian Trujillo, Felicia, Dominic and Alex Martinez.Visitation hours will be from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the Howe Community Room.Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 9, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Matias Pacheco of New Life Ministries, Lafayette, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Erie, CO.
