Nick grew up in the Las Vegas area but was unable to attend school. As a youth, he was stricken with polio. It was during this time he met one of his boyhood heroes, Gene Autry and his horse, Champion the Wonder Horse. From there it grew a love for Cowboy and Western movies that he carried throughout his adult life.
Nick traveled and worked with Union Pacific Railroad as well as did farming work. In the 1940’s, Nick moved from Las Vegas to the small town of Longmont, Colorado. On a snowy day in 1947, while walking on Main Street, he noticed a young woman who had slipped and fallen in the snow. Being the gentleman he was, Nick rushed over to help this girl. Despite the cold and snow, the two sat and talked for hours right where she had fallen. It was there a 71-year love affair began. Nick and Mary (Zuniga) were married on June 12, 1947 in Longmont.
Throughout his life, Nick enjoyed many hobbies and activities. Amongst his favorites were fishing, gardening, cooking and farming. He even enjoyed trying his luck at the casinos. He was an avid Broncos fan and was known to sit and watch WWE for hours.
Nick is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary O. Lujan; children, Nacor (Jeannette) Lujan, Jr., James (Holly) Lujan, Tim Lujan and Linda Lopez; grandchildren, Trinity Lujan Beckett, Albino (Christina) Lujan-Hernandez, Nickolas Lujan, Antonio Lujan, Jeremy (Sierra) Lujan, JB Lujan, and Maryann Lujan; great grandchildren, Tyleen (Larry) Thompson and family, Zoey Lujan, Allie Lujan, Caleb Lujan and many others.
Nick loved people was loved by everyone. He never met a stranger.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents.
Nick will be buried in the family plot at San Antonio de Padua Cemetery in Los Montoyas, New Mexico.
