Nancy C. Hawthorne

Nancy C. Hawthorne passed away on January 9, 2016 at the Alta Vita Memory Care in Longmont, Colorado. She was 86 years old. Nancy was born in Oak Park, IL to Charles and Catherine (Owen) Cessna. She grew up in Oak Park and moved to the Cleveland, OH area during high school, where she graduated from Lakewood High School. Nancy graduated from DePauw University with a degree in English. She worked for the Cleveland Press in 1951 as a real estate editor. She became the assistant editor for the real estate pages before stopping work when her son Doug was born in 1954.Nancy met George Hawthorne on a blind date and they married on June 13, 1953 in Lakewood, OH. They lived in Middleburg Heights, OH for 49 years until relocating to Longmont in 2005.She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and stayed active in their local chapters. Nancy also belonged to the Middleburg Heights Historical Society and was active in the Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory Women's Committee.Nancy loved bird watching, listening to music, playing bridge, traveling and viewing constellations in the night sky with her husband George.Nancy's parents and her brother Bob preceded her in death.Nancy is survived by her husband George of Longmont, CO; her son Doug (Norene) Hawthorne of Longmont; daughter Sue (J ) Fleming of Daly City, CA; sons Mark Hawthorne of Snohomish, WA and Ken (Denise) Hawthorne of Wichita, KS; sister“in-law Helen Hertel of Salisbury, MA; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.A viewing will take place from 5-7pm Wednesday January 13, 2016 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry Street in Longmont. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 am Thursday January 14, 2016 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, CO. Interment will be held following the service at 12:15 pm at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley, P.O. Box 333, Longmont, CO 80501.
