

Nieves M. Franco, 90, of Longmont passed away March 23, 2017, at Longmont United Hospital.She was born August 5, 1926, in the Philippines, to Graciano Macabagdal and Patricia (Rivera) Macabagdal. Nieves grew up, attended elementary, high school, and secondary education. She graduated from Far Eastern University with a degree in commerce (business).Nieves married Melencio Pascual Franco on January 11, 1959, in Quezon City, Philippines.She had a lengthy career as an office manager for Freeman Incorporated, a clothing manufacturer in the Philippines, retiring in 1984. In the Philippines, she was a member of and served several terms as president of the Catholic Women's League.On October 22, 1993, she and Melencio came to the United States and lived in Spring Valley, CA; they soon moved to Longmont in September of 1994.Nieves was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, active in the Altar and Rosary Society and the Wednesday Vigil Prayer group. She made rosaries for, and was the secretary of, the St. Anne's Mission Rosary Guild.She was active at the Longmont Senior Center, participating there in a knitting group and a writing group. While in the writing group, Nieves completed her memoirs.Nieves is remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a source of emotional support and comfort for many people.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melencio on Dec. 18, 1999, son-in-law Bienvenido Reyes on March 21, 2009, and sister Tarciana Umali.Nieves is survived by her son Mark Franco, daughter Salve Reyes, and grandchildren Michelle, David and Samuel, all of Longmont. She is also survived by sisters Sixta Lacon, Basilisa Biglang-awa, Marciana delos Santos, and Juanita Francisco.Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. A Rosary/Vigil service at 6:30 pm on Friday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
