Norman Leonard Kyhn

Norm was a true kid at heart who never outgrew his love of cars, hot rods, and anything with wheels. His passion for automobiles was woven throughout his entire life. Whether he was building, racing, restoring, or collecting, cars were always a big part of his life. As a senior in high school, he joined the Highway Men Car Club. After graduating from Longmont High School in 1961, his passion continued. In 1968, Norm and eight friends founded the ColoRODans. What began as a group of friends united by their love of cars grew into an enduring part of the Longmont community, and Norm was proud to be one of its founders. Norm later joined the Road Knights Car Club. Over the years, his love of cars brought him countless hours of enjoyment, lifelong friendships, and many cherished memories.

Norm was also a talented and creative craftsman. After many years working in quality control, he took sewing classes at night school and eventually opened his own auto upholstery shop. He used his skills to upholster many of his friends’ hot rods, with some of his work earning recognition in car magazines. He loved creating, building, and making things better, and he took great pride in his work.

While cars and creativity were important parts of Norm’s life, his greatest joy was his family. He treasured time with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved being part of their lives. He also had a special appreciation for a good home-cooked meal and made sure he never left the table hungry. His stories, sense of humor, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Wilma Kyhn, and his sister-in-law, Martha Kyhn.

He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly McNeill (Andrew) and Kolleen Meier; grandchildren, Kelsey Cole (Dawlton), Savannah Grasso (David), Noah McNeill, and Kenna Piggott (Ben); great-grandchildren, Charley Cole and Kinsley Cole; brother, Delbert Kyhn; sister, Jerilyn

Phillips (John); and many extended family members and lifelong friends who will forever cherish the memories they made with him.

In memory of Norm, donations may be made to the Mountain States Children’s Home.

A Graveside Service celebrating Norm’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Foothills Gardens of Memory, 14241 N. 107th Street, Longmont. Family and friends are welcome to join together to honor and celebrate a life well lived.
