July 16,1928-August 6, 2021
Oral Beckmann was born on July 16,1928 to William and Pauline (Boldebuck) Beckmann. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of 7 children, near Malcolm, Nebraska. Following his high school graduation, he went to Lincoln, Nebraska and worked at the National Bank of Commerce, thus starting his long career in banking. Oral was introduced to his future wife, Loine (Lou) in the vault when they both worked at the bank. They were married on June 5, 1949.
Oral served in the Nebraska Air National Guard and was called to active duty during the Korean War. Upon completion of service, he returned to the bank in Lincoln. In 1961 Oral and Lou relocated their family to Longmont, Colorado to accept a position at Longmont National Bank. In 1967 Oral began working at St. Vrain Valley Bank and became president in 1969. He had the distinction of being president of 2 banks at the same location when St. Vrain Valley Bank was acquired by United Banks of Colorado, the predecessor to Wells Fargo. In 1983, after 35 years, he chose to “retire” from commercial banking, and began a new career in commercial real estate, with Embassy Realty, Title Realty and finally as a co-founder of 1st Realty Associates.
Oral loved the community of Longmont. He served on many volunteer boards, including the Board of Directors and was President
of the Chamber of Commerce. In the early 1980’s he was a
founding director and served as the first Chairman of the Economic Development Association of Longmont, now known as the Longmont Area Economic Council. He was recipient of the Tom Brock Award in 2002. He was a former member of Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs in Longmont.
Oral was baptized, confirmed, and practiced his strong Lutheran faith. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Longmont and had served on various committees.
Later in life he enjoyed golf and spending more time with friends. Through the years he always supported and followed the activities of his children and grandchildren and also spent time at the family cabin he built near Raymond.
Oral is survived by his children Sue (Charlie) Stromquist, Tom (Amy) Beckmann, and Jean Martin; his grandchildren Luke Stromquist, Ryan (Brianne) Stromquist, Blake (Emily) Stromquist, Katie (Grant) Haley, Tyler Beckmann, Emily (Tayler) Davis, Cole (Christine) Martin and 8 great-grandchildren.
