Paul was born August 8th, 1953 in Queens, New York. He grew up with his parents and two sisters (Kathy and Maribeth) in the same third story walkup in Queens in which his mother was raised. He was raised Catholic and attended St. Aloysius Elementary School and was an altar boy. After graduating from Christ the King High School, he went to The DeVry Technical University where he was interviewed and hired by IBM to repair typewriters.
Paul moved to Colorado with IBM in 1978, where he continued to work until his retirement thirty years later. During those years, he held many positions from copier manufacturing to Project Manager to Duty Manager.
Paul enjoyed bowling with his friends in New York, including Billy Hoefer who went on to marry Paul’s sister, Kathy. He loved his New York Yankees and the Giants with a passion, and was an avid follower. He loved traveling and especially introducing people to his New York City. He was always game to try new things and join his friends in their adventures...even when they ended in mishaps. He was an avid “non” outdoors/sportsman trying anything at least once, sometimes (usually) to his own detriment. He loved reading, and, after his eyesight failed, audiobooks. He also loved to cook.
Paul was a confirmed bachelor of many decades, living happily on his own, when his friend and co-worker, Kevin Kniss, convinced him to invite Janet Morrison to a dinner party he was holding for friends. They bonded over their mutual love and passion for reading, traveling, cheesy disaster movies, and their mutual love of Paul's home city of New York. Paul and Janet married on June 12, 2004 in New York City at his mother’s apartment in Queens with his mother, sisters, and brother-in-law as witnesses. They then all walked down a couple of blocks to celebrate at Paul’s favorite German restaurant, Zum Stammtisch.
Suddenly, he’s got a wife, adult step-daughters, an old cat, a new house, and in-laws! He took all of these life changes in stride and approached the experience as he did everything...with an open mind and a willingness to try.
March 8th, 2007 his world expanded to welcome his first grandchild, Zoe Olivia (Eastburn). He and Janet were blessed to have her live nearby and they enjoyed almost weekly visits and sleepovers together. He always looked forward to her next sleepover and made sure we always had her favorite foods on hand. Granddaughters Elizabeth Jane (Keralis) and Sophia Marie (Keralis) followed in 2014 and 2019, and though they lived out-of-state, he was so happy to see them whenever possible. Paul was so proud to be a grandfather and even prouder of those girls.
Even after loving Colorado and living here almost 45 years, he was a consummate New Yorker who never lost that New Yawk accent. Janet loved his home city as well and together they enjoyed several visits through the years. Paul was a kind and very generous man, always remembering the ‘little things’ that someone mentioned and surprising them with it later – even if he had to visit every grocery store in town to find Janet's favorite pickles. He was always supportive and full of encouragement and will be sorely missed by his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Philip Frank Sublich and Harriet Theresa Sublich (Cohn) and his sister Kathleen Hoefer (Billy). He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet Morrison Sublich (Tresp) of Longmont, his sister Maribeth Sublich of Pennsylvania, step-daughters Emily Eastburn (Jesse) of Broomfield, and Amanda Morrison (Mica Keralis) of South Dakota and his granddaughters Zoe, Elizabeth, and Sophia.
Per Paul’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered on Flagstaff Mountain in Colorado and on Reynolds Channel in New York in the Spring. A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held in both Colorado and New York in the Spring.
