

Born on May 13, 1949, in Rainsville, New Mexico, Peter was the son of Leopoldo B. Barela and Angelina Mora Barela. Though born in New Mexico, he spent much of his life making his home and residence in Longmont, Colorado.
A proud veteran, Peter served in the United States Army. After his service, he settled into life in Longmont, where he was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In 1982, Peter married Theresa (Martinez) Barela.
Peter was known for his friendly, outgoing nature. He was a passionate fan of the Denver Broncos, always watching a game with a beer in hand. He also thoroughly enjoyed running errands, and spending time chatting with the employees at the places he went to.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo and Angelina, his beloved wife Theresa, and his brother Paul R. Barela.
He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Barela and Stephanie (David) Hernandez, son Tommy (Loriann) Gomez, his siblings Louie (Denise) Barela, Georgia A. Arvizu, and Irene M Barela, his nephews Rudy Jr. (Krystal) Arvizu, Mike (Jessica) Arvizu, Joseph Gomez, and great nephews Seth Arvizu, Jordan Gomez, Ezekiel Gomez, Sebastian Medina, nieces Roxanne Barela and Monica Arvizu, Yesenia Arvizu, and great-nieces Nova Sarco, Jacqueline Sarco, Abby Arvizu, Autiana Arvizu, Angie Arvizu, Brooke Arvizu, Gracie Arvizu, Jahnia Rios, Miah Rios and Amora Gomez, his grandsons Dominic (Zuhal) Gomez, Orlando Hernandez, Christopher (Anabel) Gomez, Lorenzo Hernandez, Patrick Gomez, and Granddogs Jasper(Jazzy)Barela and Lola(Lolee) Hernandez.
