Raymond Leon Murphy

Raymond Leon Murphy, of Longmont, Colorado, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at HospiceCare Center in Louisville. He was 85 years old.Ray was born July 21, 1921 in Pueblo, Colorado to Joseph P. and Florence M. (Lynch) Murphy. He grew up in Pueblo and graduated from Central High School in 1940.In 1943, Mr. Murphy joined the US Navy, serving as an Aviation Machinist?s Mate, Second Class. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Ray returned to Colorado and began his career as an aviation mechanic, inspector and supervisor. He worked for many years with Mobil Oil Co., Aircraftco, and Clinton Aviation, before retiring in 1985.On November 15, 1952, Ray married Jane Broderick in Denver, Colorado. The couple lived and raised their family in Billings, Montana, Durango, Colorado, and Littleton, Colorado before moving to their farm near Longmont in 1974.When he wasn't tending to chores and projects on his farm, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Most of all, however, he cherished time spent with his family. He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Mead. Survivors include his wife, Jane Murphy, of Longmont; two daughters, Diane Stevens and her husband, Ron, of Mead, and Ginny Lefever and her husband, Mike, of Longmont; and two sons, Dan Murphy and his wife, Carrie, of Longmont, and Tim Murphy of Parker. He is further survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Joe and Don Murphy.Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Mead. The Reverend Robert Whipkey will serve as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
