Raymond Clyde Wormell passed away June 23, 2107 at Medical Center of the Rockies. He was 78.Ray was born on August 9, 1938 to Alberta and Clyde Rutherford in Pueblo and later adopted by his dad, Tom Wormell following Clyde's death. Ray grew up in San Diego and proudly served in the United States Air Force. In 1970, Ray moved to Longmont and for many years owned Plotter Repair. He was an enthusiast of Colorado's great outdoors, enjoying hiking and volunteering to maintain the trails he loved. Though Ray battled many physical setbacks in recent years, he never lost his joy of getting together with friends and family, hopefully with food featured. Ray loved to make friends, maintaining friendships for years with regular phone calls and invitations to share a meal. Ray's step-daughter Jennifer shared these memories of Ray, which pretty well sum up his generous spirit and love of life: The first time I met Ray he drove through actual Hell and high water to check on us when Fort Collins flooded. He didn't even know us yet but had so much love and care that he didn't think twice about coming to our rescue. Ray was crazy generous, a real coat-off-his-own-back kind of guy. I never took his coat, but he did give me a beloved ubba hoody once. At least I think he gave it to me; maybe he just didn't complain when I took it! He loved a chat over a cup of coffee, and he told the best stories. We used to joke about how many of them involved frying things in butter. I loved putting the world to rights with Ray; he had such a constant concern for others that governed him. He saw the best in people and had a truly big heart. He made a difference to the world with all the love he put into it.Ray is survived by his wife Jan Wyland of Longmont; his sons Ray, Jr. and Randy of Loveland, and Rick of Berthoud, his daughter Renee (Jim Crueger) of Loveland, his step-daughters Stacy Shriver (Cary Stanfield) of Morrison, Becky Wyland (Chris Olberding) of Longmont, and Jennifer Wyland (Jamie Tatch) of Kings Langley, England; six grandchildren Zach, Tara, Tommy, Ahnalysse, Eli, and Ferris; five great-grandchildren Hannah, Riley, Baylee, Jaden, and Noah; his brothers Tom (Susan) and Jim Wormell of Greeley, and many other relatives and friends, including his beloved dog Sally.Ray was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Rutherford, Alberta and Tom Wormell, and his granddaughter Linden Rose Wyland-Olberding.Ray's friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of Ray's life on September 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont.
