Richard Neil Eskew

He was born on October 14,1941 in North Platte, Nebraska.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maude Eskew; his parents, Elsa and Walter Eskew; his children, Avery Cochran, Helen Varner and Teresa Cochran; and his brothers, John Eskew and Lamont Eskew.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Montes of Dacono, Patricia Tracy of Dacono, Joy Cochran of Parker; and his sister, Judith Allen of Paker. Brother, Gary Eskew. Richard also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.

Richard Eskew was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who dedicated his life to serving his country, during his time in the Navy, Richard spent his first year aboard an aircraft carrier before becoming a second crew member on a twin-engine bomber. He was the fourth instructor in survival training for the first four groups of the U.S. Navy SEALs and proudly served during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, Richard continued a life defined by hard work, dedication, and sacrifice. He spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver and later worked at Kiewit Construction. Both careers required long hours and countless sacrifices, but Richard never allowed the demands of his work to keep him from being there for his family.

Richard retired in 2002, but retirement never changed the way he loved or cared for those around him. He was a man who gave of himself freely, never asking for recognition in return. He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard was truly a selfless man who understood that fatherhood and family were never defined solely by blood. He opened his heart, his home, and his life to six children. He raised them, provided for them, protected them, guided them, and loved them as his own. His love was not conditional, and his commitment to his family never wavered. That kind of selfless love leaves a legacy that will never fade.

Richard was also deeply committed to serving his community and his fellow veterans. He was a Past Post Commander of American Legion Post 1985, served as Junior Vice Commander for the Department of Colorado, and as Junior Vice Commander of District Four of Northern Colorado. His leadership, dedication, and willingness to serve others earned him the respect and admiration of many.

His life was a testament to service, sacrifice, hard work, and unconditional love. The impact he made on his family, his friends, his fellow veterans, and all those who knew him will continue to live on through the people he touched.

Richard will be deeply missed by all who loved him, but his memory, his lessons, and the love he gave so freely will remain forever.

A Rosary will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5503 Bella Rosa Pkwy, Longmont, CO 80504, on September 11, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Memorial Service at the same location on September 11, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. There is a luncheon to follow at the American Legion Post 1985 at 870 1st St, Firestone, CO.
