

Richard Thomas Rooney passed away March 28, 2023. He was a graduate of Bear Creek High School, class of 1955 where he was active as the Student Council President and lettered in all four sports in four years.
He served at the Littleton Volunteer Fire Department May 1959 to February 1970. He was the Fire Marshall in Sheridan and Lafayette Fire Departments from 1971 – 1977. He served as Fire Chief in Valdez Alaska and Fire District #4 in Frasier, CO 1977 – 1981before retiring with 22 years of fire service.
He served for eight years with the Colorado Air National Guard in weapons loading and small arms and was honorably discharges as a S/Sgt in 1966.
He graduated from Red Rocks College with a degree in Fire Science Technology in 1976.
Richard aerial spraying on farm crops for 25 years; and flew for 50 years doing skydiving, charter and photography for over 9,800 hours. He flew as a search and rescue pilot for the Colorado Civil Air Patrol as a squadron commander in Littleton. He retired from Air Traffic Control in Longmont with 25 years of Federal Service in 1999.
He was a Catechist Ed teacher for 11 years at All Souls Catholic Church.
He is survived by two children Dale Rooney and Kristine Love and five grandchildren.
A visitation for Richard will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at All Souls Catholic Church, 4950 S. Logan St, Englewood, CO 80113. A mass of christian burial will occur Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM, 4950 S. Logan St, Englewood, CO 80113. A burial will occur Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 1:15 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80236.
