Richard M. Vidal of Evanston, Colorado, died at his home on June 14, 2009. He was 79 years old.He was born April 3, 1930, in Erie, Colorado, the son of Jose and Feliza (Mendoza) Vidal. Moving with his family to Frederick when he was a boy, Richard played basketball and baseball at Frederick High School. Following his graduation, he was inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before being transferred to Fort Belvoir, Virginia and on to France where he remained stationed until his discharge in 1955. He married Rose Moreno on February 14, 1955.Skilled in the building trades, Richard worked 44 years in the construction industry. After 38 years with Stanley Structure, he spent the final 6 years of his career with Rocky Mountain Pre-Stress, retiring in 1992. Richard enjoyed all sports but had a special fondness for Colorado Rockies baseball and the University of Colorado Buffaloes. He took great pride in growing his vegetable garden. He loved mariachi music. Family vacations were taken in the beautiful Colorado mountains, and he especially liked visiting the Mother Cabrini Shrine. Mr. Vidal will be remembered as a family man and a good provider.Survivors include his wife, Rose; sons, Richard Jr. and Alex Vidal; daughters, Diana and Kathy Vidal, all of Frederick, and Shirley Cordova and husband, Mark, of Boulder; his brothers, Joe Vidal, Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Northglenn and Gabe Vidal and wife, Martha, of Denver; sister, Lupe Vidal Hughes of Frederick; and four grandchildren, Brandon Warren, Desiree Southworth, Sam Southworth, and Jethro Sommers. He is further survived by a special son-in-law, Don Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding Richard in death were his parents, and a brother, Leo Vidal. He was also preceded by four infant siblings; and twin brothers, Leonardo and Florentino.No public visitation is scheduled. Howe Mortuary of Longmont is handling arrangements. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009 followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial, both at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Frederick. Interment will be in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
