Dr. Robert “Bob” Scaer, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 25th. Bob was born on February 23, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Carl and Ada (Gressens) Scaer and grew up in Oak Park. Bob, a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, received his B.A. in Psychology and his M.D degree from the University of Rochester. He was a Captain in the US Army, serving two years, including a tour in Okinawa. As a board-certified neurologist he had a 4-decade career in neurology and rehabilitation medicine, 20 of those years spent as the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Mapleton Center in Boulder. This position started him down a path that led to his life’s work in the study of traumatic brain injury, chronic pain and life trauma and to then become a pioneer in the field of traumatology. He lectured extensively nationally and internationally and published three books on the topic.
In his own words, Bob hoped that the world’s people learn that they must live in harmony with nature if they are to survive, that the future of the human race is based on how we nurture and raise our infants and children, and that all people are born good, kind and loving. He wanted his grandchildren to know that he tried his best to be a good father and a good physician.
Bob was an avid skier, cyclist and musician.
Bob is survived, by his sister Marguerite Pond, his former wife Roberta Mylan and their four children: daughter Kathleen Scaer; son Michael Scaer, his wife Amy Scaer and their son Logan; son Andrew Scaer and his sons Keanu Mir-Scaer and Zen Mir-Scaer; and daughter Amanda Angha and her husband Ashkan Angha and their sons Samyar, Sebastian, Sullivan, Savian and Soren.
The family will be planning a memorial celebration of Bob’s life in the spring/summer of 2022.
