Robert W. Jackson (Bob) was born on April 7, 1939 to Sarah Bain Jackson and John J. Jackson in Longmont, Colorado. Bob grew up in Frederick, graduating from Frederick High School in 1957. He attended the Northrup Aeronautical Institute in Los Angeles where he studied Aeronautical Engineering.
He married Shirley A. Clark in Longmont on December 31, 1960 at St. John's Catholic Church..
Bob was employed as a mining salesman for Union Supply Company and retired after 20 years of service. After becoming bored with retirement, he went to work at the University of Colorado in Norlin Library where he stayed for 20 more years. Bob enjoyed the university atmosphere and always said the young people keep you young. He and Shirley had season tickets to the Buffs games for 20 years.
While at the University, Bob was “a human guinea pig’ for the Kinesiology Department. He participated in many experiments to help benefit others. He also donated in excess of five gallons of blood to Belle Bonfils Blood Bank.
He was a member of BPOE Elks #1055 and the Moose Club of Longmont. He was a Cub Master, PTO president, and BOBS Club president while his children were growing up. He was always involved in their pursuits and there when any of these organizations needed anything.
Bob made a killer vegetable mix. Every year he would enter in the Boulder County Fair. Never won anything. One year, he decided to enter it as B. Jackson instead of Bob Jackson. He won a blue ribbon that year. Bob always had a beautiful yard. One year he won the Times Call yard contest.
He loved plaid shirts. When he no longer had to wear the white shirt and tie, it was always the plaid shirt. One year on his birthday, the students that worked for him all wore plaid shirts!
Bob loved new cars and clean cars. He was always thinking about a new car. On more than one occasion, he convinced Shirley that 40,000 miles meant nothing but trouble. His cars (known as Jackson cars) never had a speck of dirt on them. He handed this trait down to his children. Bob enjoyed the latest and greatest of everything. Always bought new, seldom called a repairman.
Bob loved to travel, taking his family to places like Tahiti and Fiji. Later, he and Shirley enjoyed traveling around the US and Europe. They celebrated their wedding anniversary (Dec. 31st) in many exotic locations. On one trip to Victoria, British Columbia, Bob prevented a purse snatching. He received a letter of accommodation from the Royal Mounted Police. The snatcher had already robbed six elderly ladies.
At one time, Bob played golf. While in Vail, he was looking at new clubs when President Ford came into the golf garage. He helped Bob buy new clubs. They never did work!
Bob loved dogs. He was very fond of his basset hounds, Peaches and Daisy Mae.
He enjoyed being at their condo in Estes Park. It was always kept in perfect shape.
Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, sister Darlene Warembourg, brother in law James Warembourg, brother in law Fred Sekich, nephew Ronald Sekich. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 61 years, one son, Brian and partner, John Williams of Wheat Ridge, one daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Dr. Daniel Womer of Thornton, and his very special grandson, Andy Womer of Thornton.
