The son of Shirley and Ollie Smith, Ron Smith was born March 2, 1936 in Denver, CO. He had one older sister, Colleen who now lives in Washington.
As a child, Ron was quite mischievous. He attended Alcott Elementary where his mom was the school secretary. When he was taken to the office by his teacher for some prank, his mom would pretend she didn't know him. He always got a good laugh telling that story.
He graduated from North High School and married his high school sweetheart, Nonie. They spent the first night of their honeymoon in Idaho Springs and the remainder of it was spent camping with his family.
Nonie was a city girl, but learned to love nature and the mountains.
One of her earliest memories of their mountain adventures was on their honeymoon when the newlyweds went for a romantic stroll, saw a bear, and Ron ran down the hill ahead of her, leaving her in the dust.
The couple had 3 children; Bren, Bret and Bryan, 4 grandchildren; Alisa, Josh, Derrick and Tanner, and 4 great-grandchildren. The time they spent camping and fishing with Ron and Nonie are memories that will never fade.
Ron enjoyed his outdoor adventure and his dear friends in Buena Vista, Salida and Poncha Springs until he chose to move closer to his family in 2023.
He passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at 12:45 AM the morning of April 17, 2025 with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.
A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in Nathrop, Colorado. Please reach out to Bren if you are interested in attending.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
