Ruth Lavonne Sollars

Lavonne was born to Alvia and Alma Whitney on January 31, 1933 in Clarinda, Iowa. She was the second of five children; two brothers and two sisters. She passed away on March 30, 2021 at the Life Care Center in Longmont at the age of 88 years old.

Lavonne met the love of her life, Edwin LaVerne Sollars, and they were married in College Springs, Iowa in 1948. Together they had four children; Ron, Lin, Laura and Larry.

She was a high school graduate and attended some classes at a business college.

She worked a variety of jobs over the years. She babysat, cleaned houses and waitressed. She also volunteered at elementary schools reading to the children or helping out on various activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Women’s Club. She volunteered at Longmont United Hospital and in 1967 she served on the Hospital Auxiliary working with volunteer students. She was an Avon representative for 8 years. She worked at a small dress shop and Starr’s Clothing. Lavonne opened her own business in Loveland in1985. She named it “Lavonne’s Boutique” retiring in 1987.

Lavonne and LaVerne’s travels took them to Arizona over the years where Lavonne’s parents lived. They also enjoyed trips to Seattle, Washington and Las Vegas, Nevada. They initially traveled in a camper but later enjoyed traveling in a 5th wheel trailer. After LaVerne passed away, Laura and Lavonne enjoyed a bus tour trip one year to the Northeast United States.

Lavonne is survived by her two daughters; Lin (Wayne) Schell of Johnstown, CO and Laura (Marvin) Oram of Berthoud, CO. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Scott (Kathy) Schell, Jeff (Sharon) Schell, Shad (Kathi) Sollars, Amy Oram and Angie Oram, 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne, her two sons Ron and Larry and all of her siblings.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 6th from 4:00 - 7:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Howe Mortuary on Thursday, April 8th at 11:00am with a light lunch to follow. Masks will be required at the viewing and the service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made towards a bench for the Life Care Center in Lavonne's memory. Make checks payable to Laura Oram and send to Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, CO 80501.
