

Samuel John Cook, 87, died February 19, 2008 at the Bee Hive Home in Fort Lupton, Colorado.Known as Sam to his family and friends, he was born December 23, 1920 in Sutton, Nebraska to Phillip John and Eleanore (Eberhard) Cook. He was raised on a farm outside of Berthoud, Colorado with ten other siblings.Serving in WWII under General George C. Patton, Mr. Cook fought in the Battles and Campaigns of Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, and Northern France. He was awarded four Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.On November 18, 1943, he married Esther Olinda Maul. The couple made their home in rural Frederick for many years.He worked for Ranchway Elevators for 20 years and then for Gardener & Denver as a machinist for another 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lupton and the VFW Post 9741 of Dacono.Sam was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.He is survived by his wife, Esther Cook; sister, Norma Noyes and her husband, John, of Denver; daughter, Karen Miller and her husband, Gerry, of Firestone; son, Glenn Cook and his wife, Gayle, of Fort Lupton; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services of Longmont. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Fort Lupton.
