Scott was born on December 23, 1970, in Longmont, Colorado, to Frank and Sandy Sawdey. From the beginning, family was an important part of Scott’s life. He was a great blessing to his grandparents and spent much of his childhood alongside them on the farm. He especially loved being his grandfather’s shadow, following him around and helping wherever he could. When there wasn’t work to be done on the farm, Scott could usually find an adventure of some kind. His love for the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life, especially through hunting and fishing.
Scott graduated from Skyline High School in 1990 and later attended Denver Automotive and Diesel College, where he earned an associate’s degree. After college, he began his career as a Medical Equipment Technician. Scott took pride in his work, but what mattered most to him was knowing that the work he did allowed him to serve and help people in his community.
One of the greatest chapters of Scott’s life began when he married his best friend and the love of his life, Renee, on June 19, 1993, in Lyons, Colorado. Together, Scott and Renee shared 33 wonderful years and built a life centered around their family. They raised three beautiful children, Dustin, Sierra, and Jacob, and created countless memories together along the way.
Being a father was a role Scott truly loved. He was loving, funny, encouraging, and always wanted the very best for his children. Some of the moments that meant the most were often the simple ones—helping with 4-H projects, going hunting or fishing, taking drives, or simply spending time together. Those were the kinds of moments Scott valued: being outside, sharing an experience, telling stories, laughing, and spending time with the people he loved.
Scott shared more than his time with his children; he also shared his faith. Faith was an important part of his life, and he and his family attended Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette.
Those who knew Scott knew him as someone who was kind, caring, strong, fun, and encouraging. He had a heart for helping others and a way of making the people around him know they mattered. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and finding new adventures. He had the opportunity to make memories with his family in places around the world, including Germany, Disney World, and Disneyland. Whether the adventure took him across the world, outdoors on a hunting or fishing trip, or simply on a drive with the people he loved, what mattered most to Scott was who was beside him.
Above everything else, Scott loved his family. Renee was not only his wife but his best friend and the love of his life. His children were a tremendous source of pride and joy. Scott was also looking forward to another very special role—becoming a grandfather for the first time with the arrival of his grandson in October 2026.
Scott is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, Renee Sawdey; his children, Dustin (Elizabeth) Sawdey, Sierra (Nate) Gaschler, and Jacob Sawdey; his first grandson, due in October 2026; and his aunt, Inez Sawdey.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Frank and Sandy Sawdey; his grandparents; and his aunts and uncles, Doris Sawdey, James Sawdey, and Robert (Sherry) Sawdey.
A Celebration of Scott’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. A reception will follow the service.
Scott’s life was filled with the things that mattered most to him: faith, family, laughter, hard work, helping others, and making memories with the people he loved. His family will remember the hunting and fishing trips, the drives, the 4-H projects, the travels, the adventures, and especially the countless everyday moments that seemed ordinary at the time but now mean so much.
Scott was deeply loved, and he will be dearly missed. The love he gave his family, the encouragement he offered others, and the memories he created with those around him will continue to be part of the lives of those who knew and loved him.
