Sherry grew up in California and Texas. After graduating high school, she went to Kansas City, working for the Kansas City Water Department. Her further pursuits in education led her to Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon. She would go on to earn her Bachelors in Anthropology. Sherry decided to settle in Longmont in 2005, working at the Colorado State Attorney General’s Office and then the Colorado Supreme Court Library. In May of 2014, she married Timothy Shead. Their vows guaranteed that their love would last ‘for all of time and till the stars fall’. Understanding people was a gift Sherry had – one she used in many aspects of her life, not just her studies. She was a deeply spiritual person who saw the divine in others and the world. Sherry spent time with the After-Hours church to give communion and meals to the homeless. She also created beautifully unique wedding dresses for people of all shapes and sizes, providing what the common store could not. Besides being a seamstress, Sherry could knit, crochet, do calligraphy and illumination, and created her own cosplay. This came in handy especially for her life-long involvement in The Society for Creative Anachronism, a community for medieval historical reenactment. If you were lucky enough to have known Sherry, you would have known she was a fighter. Despite her ailments, despite breast cancer, Sherry always rose again. “Phoenix” comes to mind, a term she embraced for herself. With her bright orange hair, she lit up every room she entered.
Although Sherry may be gone, and the world left a little dimmer, rest assured she has risen, and Heaven has become brighter with her fire, her light. Sherry is survived by her beloved husband Timothy Shead, her son Weiland Loveland, her aunts Penny Stevens, Wendy Pennington, and her cousin Cheyenne Valdez.
A celebration of Life will be held at The Light of Christ Ecumenical Catholic Church with the date and time to be announced soon. In Sherry’s memory, please make a contribution to the Longmont Humane Society.
