Shirley Jean Mendez

Shirley was born on her family farm, May 31, 1949 in Mead, Colorado. She was born to Mike and Rowena Sekich and was number 8 of 14 children. Shirley spent her childhood on the family farm and graduated from Longmont High School in 1967. Shirley married Isidro Mendez on December 5, 1977. Together they raised three sons, Eric (Rico) Padia, Isidro (Chill) Mendez Jr. and Oved (Cha-Chi) Mendez.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, and baking. Her biggest joys were her children and especially her grandchildren. One of her favorite things she loved to do was teach them her favorite recipes. Shirley was a very caring and loving person and always had an open heart and arms. She will be truly missed.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Rowena (Combs) Sekich; two brothers Alfred and Thomas Sekich; four sisters, Mary Jo (Lee Roy) Wierema, Dorothy, Barbara and Marcia Sekich; grandson Nathan Smykay.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Isidro Mendez; her sons, Eric Padia (Cathy), Isidro Mendez Jr. and Oved Mendez (Terri); her grandchildren, Adrianna (Aguido) Mendez Nevarez, Domanic Mendez, Alexander Mendez, Jodi Mendez, Mariah Mendez, Rohyn Padia; her brothers Bill (Sharon) Sekich, Mike Sekich; her sisters Alice (Dave) Klena, Donna Rogers, Kathy Makings, Mickie (Phil) Ambrose, Nancy (Randy) Mayer; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Family will be holding a public visitation at 11 am and a private family service at 12 pm at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and burial at 1 pm at Mountain View Cemetery on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic family service and burial is private, for immediate family only.
