Sibyl was born June 5, 1922, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and married Stanley A. Goerner on June 17, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, at which time she moved to Longmont. The daughter of Raymond Kedzie Adams and Crystal Grace Hudson Adams, she was raised in Denver where she moved with her family at the age of 2 years. Sibyl was an ordained Presbyterian Elder and served on the Session of Central Presbyterian Church where her husband was pastor. Music was always a part of her life. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and directing the children’s choir. Her faith in Christ guided her life.
She graduated from North High School in Denver in 1940 and Colorado State University in 1944 with a degree in Home Economics. She went on for an internship in nutrition at the University of Minnesota Hospitals at Minneapolis. Following her dietetic internship, she worked as a clinical dietician at Children’s Hospital in Denver, and Longmont United Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Goerner in 1999, her son Peter, sister Marion Geisler, and brother Raymond Adams. She is survived by daughter Ruth Seedorf and her husband Rick of Yuma Colorado, sons Phil Goerner and his wife Krista Brakhage, John Goerner and wife Linda. After retirement, Sibyl and her husband enjoyed traveling to many countries which she continued to do after his death. She felt we have much to learn from other cultures. She enjoyed meeting many people within travel groups and developing relationships which expanded meaning for all.
Her skill at embroidery and hand weaving brought her many hours of enjoyment. She loved spending summers at their mountain cabin which she, her husband, and family built in 1960 and improved through the years. This provided many seasons of enjoyment for all family members and helped her grandchildren enjoy God’s wonderful world.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, Longmont, or Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center, Allenspark, Colorado, in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
