Stan was born on December 4th, 1939, in Sterling, Colorado to Frank McMillan and Lucille (Koehler).
He grew up in northeastern, rural Colorado with his 4 siblings and a large extended family nearby. He helped with the harvesting of crops and chores related to the caring of livestock and the farm. Stan had happy memories of times spent with a large family in a small community.
Stan attended elementary through high school in Fleming, Colorado.
From 1962 through 1964, he served in the United States Army.
In 1965/66 he moved to Longmont, Colorado to work at IBM. After a career that spanned 30 years, he retired as a systems analyst.
On January 16, 1971, Stan married his lifelong partner, Kathy (Oberoslar) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont. Together they raised a son, Michael.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, his brother Frank and (Shirley) McMillan, brother Jerry McMillan, sister, Jody Etl and (Bill), sister, Virginia Kennedy and (Garry).
Stan is survived by his wife Kathy, sister-in-law, Judy McMillan, grandchildren; Tate McMillan, Alexis McMillan and great grandson, Zayden Shamroy.
Family and friends remember Stan as a wonderful man to be around. He loved and valued his family with all his heart and always made sure they knew it by the way he would lend a listening ear or by his patience and support in all of life's ventures. He always had a ready smile, was fun loving with a great sense of humor. His sense of humor was his way of communicating as he was a man of few words.
Through the years Stan could be relied upon to attend family weddings, funerals and celebrations. In later years despite ill-health and discomfort, you could count upon his and Kathy's attendance.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, billiards, time spent with friends, auto mechanics and woodworking. His hand-crafted fishing poles were very special.
