Steven Wade Haskins, age 76, passed away at home on Saturday May 18, 2024 after a 3 1/2 year battle with cancer. Steve was born at Boulder Community Hospital on November 13, 1947 and liked to tell the story that he ran the crane that tore down the part of the hospital he was born in. He attended schools in Boulder, graduating from Boulder High School in May 1966 and then getting his Bachelor's Degree in May of 1975 from the University of Colorado.
Steve was an accomplished baseball player and remained a fan. When he wasn't playing baseball he was playing football at Boulder High. He loved race car driving and spent many a weekend at the sport. He still enjoyed watching and attending car races, even after he was no longer actively involved. There was usually a baseball game, football game or car race on the TV whenever he wasn't able to attend.
Steve worked at Boulder Excavating Company for 42 years, from 3 days before he graduated from
Boulder High, and then with his wife, Susan, they purchased the company in 1996 and closed it in 2008.
An avid fisherman, he loved to venture to Yellowstone National Park every opportunity he got to fish the Gardiner and the Yellowstone Rivers. His family and many friends have great stories about fishing in Yellowstone. If he couldn't get up north he was happy fishing many spots in Boulder County, especially in his backyard in the Bar K Ranch or at Brainerd Lake.
Steve is survived by his wife, Susan of 41 years, two sons, Porter (Elyce) and Allen, a grandson, Barrett
Wade Haskins, a sister, Susan Martinez (Rod) of Grand Junction, CO, two nephews John (Stephanie) and Chris Martinez, three great nieces, numerous cousins and many friends. Steve's parents, Buel Wade Haskins and Evelyn Hoffman Haskins preceded him in death.
