Susan Kay Young

Susan Kay Young, 67, of Longmont, CO, passed away on February 11th, 2022, following heart surgery. Susan was born on April 10th, 1954, to Harold “Dean” and Ardell Rupert in Seymour, IN. Susan graduated from Wellington High School, Wellington, OH and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH. She then moved to Longmont, CO in 1976 where she had her son Douglas Young and resided until her passing.

Susan loved her family, pets, and sports. She enjoyed travel, having recently gone to Alaska to complete her visits to all 50 states. She was an avid follower of the Colorado Rockies baseball team, and a frequent visitor to national parks. She was an active member in the Longmont Columbine Lions Club, Longmont Women of the Moose, and Longmont CERT. Susan had a tremendous heart and a genuine love of animals, adopting numerous pets with a variety of disadvantages and providing them with a loving home. Susan was an incredibly strong and independent woman, a devoted mother, and a loving friend. She leaves an irreplaceable void in her passing.

Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Edith Malthaner, and Ester and Arthur Rupert, and her parents Harold and Ardell Rupert.

She is survived by her son Douglas Young, brother Mark Rupert & family, and Leslie Dodds.

A celebration of life will be announced later.

A graveside service for Susan was held Friday, February 25, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Avenue, Longmont, Colorado 80501.
