

Thomas A. Clydesdale of Longmont, CO died at his residence on September 16, 2008. He was 79. Thomas A. Clydesdale, Jr. was born on August 12, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to Florence Emma (Otte) and Thomas A. Clydesdale, Sr. Tom graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in Pennsylvania then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1948. He served until 1952 when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and then began a career with AT&T that lasted 38 years, retiring as a Manager of Computer Operations in 1989. Tom married Margaret Lumsden in Wilkinsburg on August 3, 1957. Tom and Marge moved to Longmont from Pittsburgh in 2000 to be near their daughters. Tom was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Longmont, acting most recently as The Spire Newsletter Editor. He also was an active volunteer at the OUR Center. Tom was a self-taught computer hobbyist, building and programming his own computers. He could fix anything and enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed flying and airplanes, soloing a Piper Cub to earn his pilot's license. Tom enjoyed playing golf, camping and traveling with his family. He also enjoyed visiting historical museums, especially museums devoted to history. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles Clydesdale and a sister Catherine Clydesdale. He is survived by his wife Margaret and three daughters: Debra Clydesdale and her fiancée Barry Waldron of Redondo Beach, CA, Lynda Clydesdale and her husband James Sommervold and their sons, Jared, Travis, and Brent, of Longmont, Carol Clydesdale and her beau Rick Bonnell of Denver; and a brother Robert Clydesdale and his wife Catherine and their children Susan, Robert, Patti, Sandra and their families of Pittsburgh, PA. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27 at the First United Methodist Church in Longmont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the OUR Center.
