

Thomas W. McGrath, 78, of Longmont, passed away at home under Hospice care on Aug. 1 after a 9-month battle with cancer. The husband of Jo McGrath, he will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard-working mechanical engineer, financial advisor, and a kind and loyal friend to many lifelong friends. Tom was born in Brockton, Mass. on July 10, 1938, to Charles and Marguerite McGrath and grew up on Cape Cod, Mass. Tom graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 1956 and that year married his high school sweetheart Jean Pinel, who predeceased him in 1999. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in New Bedford in 1961 and then launched a distinguished 42-year career as an engineer and manager with IBM. Tom was responsible for several IBM patents and his career carried him to New York, New Jersey, Kentucky, Texas, Colorado and to several foreign countries. Tom loved hunting, fishing, boating and entertaining. He nurtured in his children and grandchildren a love of Cape Cod as well as Colorado's mountains. Tom married Jo Marie Bunn on March 17, 2001. He was fortunate to share his life with her. In retirement they enjoyed traveling, outdoor activities and visits to their extended family. He is survived by four daughters: Deborah Wygent of Christiana, Pa., Sue Krause, husband Bruce Krause of Berthoud; Sandy Meyer, husband Duane Meyer of Longmont; and Nancy Flowers and J l Flowers of Berthoud. He is also survived by Carrie Bunn and Deanna, of Longmont; Christopher and Marguire Bunn of Las Vegas; and Cindy and Tommy Ferriter, of Longmont. Tom is also survived by his step-brother Floyd Sanderson of Cape Cod and David and Liz Sanderson of Cape Cod. Also, he will be missed by 13 grandchildren: Donnie, Brian, Shawna, John, David, Cody, Cameron, Amy, Jessica, Cherise, Brieana, David and Jessica. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. A life celebration will be held at 3:00pm Friday, Aug. 5 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
