Troy James DeSersa of Loveland, Colorado passed away on November 1, 2017 at the age of 40. His surviving family include his parents; his wife, Susanna DeSersa (née Reininger); his brother, Jesse DeSersa; and his uncle, Steven Haggard. Troy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Winford and Velda Haggard and Leon and Louise Desersa; his aunt, Fredricka Breaux; his uncle, Maurice Haggard; and his aunt, Lorna Rodelli.
Troy was born in Boulder, Colorado on May 20, 1977 to Charlotte Haggard and Gale DeSersa. He grew up in Boulder and Longmont, attended Longmont High School, and graduated from Desiderata Home School Program in 1994. The tragic loss of several close friends during these formative years helped Troy to develop a deep and unshakable faith in the bonds of friendship that he would cherish for the rest of his life. Always the quiet one in the group, Troy was also known for his honorable character, gentle smile, positive attitude, and endless generosity.
At the age of twenty, Troy was hired by Diamond Spas and quickly became a masterful welder. Troy continued to refine his skills over the next twenty years, eventually becoming the Shop Manager. He took great pride in his craft and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with others as a patient teacher and mentor. His loyalty to the company and love for everyone at DSI was apparent, and he relished his role as a hub of communication and connection among the staff.
Troy met Susanna Reininger in April of 2004 and knew from the moment that he first saw her that she was his future wife. This prediction was realized on June 16, 2007 when they joined hands and hearts in the presence of friends and family. Troy and Susie lived in Erie, Colorado for the next nine years until moving to Loveland, Colorado to pursue their dream of owning property near the mountains. While he rarely was victorious when playing Scrabble against Susie, Troy was always gracious while also appeasing his competitive nature by consistently winning games of chess and pool. The unconditional love for each other was obvious to anyone who spent even a few minutes with this couple. For 13 ½ years, Troy and Susie were rarely apart as they supported each other’s dreams, career goals, hobbies, and opportunities for personal growth.
An avid nature and animal lover, Troy adored spending time outdoors and caring for the numerous dogs and cats that he adopted over the years. He was often happiest when he had a few dogs trailing after him and a cat in his arms. Along with bowling, golfing, and playing racquetball, Troy also enjoyed creating beautiful and functional stainless steel and copper works of art. To the delight of his wife, Troy welded stainless steel boxes and a fence to construct a breathtaking garden for her. He would create metallic “Troy-built” wonders for anything that was needed around their house: bookshelves, a coffee table, a coat rack, and artwork for the walls.
Troy is fondly remembered and honored when friends and family gather together, connect, and celebrate unconditional love as these were the values that he lived by and for.
A Celebration of Life ceremony and reception will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St. in Longmont. Flowers may be sent in honor of Troy. Memorial contributions may also be made to charities that support animal welfare initiatives or to the K.i.D.S. (Kiddos in Danger Sponsors) Foundation by calling 720-234-9068.
