I was home recently and my brother Tom shared the news of your son's passing. Your family has long been a positive pillar of service to others and example of all that is great in America and in the Longmont community. I grieve for you and your family old friend. As I read the many messages of condolences to you and your family it is fully clear your son carried on the Schlagel traditions, I regret that I did not have the honor and pleasure of meeting and knowing him. Gary, Jo Dee and family,    I have been out of town since the 5th and was saddened to learn about Tyler.  It is a great loss.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Tyler. We always kept in touch through out the years, and I'm so thankful for the time I had him in my life and the endless memories we had created. Tyler taught me so much in life, and experiences I will never forget.. Like riding Happy for the first time & going duck hunting. My heart forever breaks with his absence and for you all Jodee, Gary, and Brandon. I will always remember Tyler smiling and laughing, being the happiest he could be in nature's surroundings. We all loved Tyler so much! I will miss him always. God bless you all.

Dear Schlagel Family,My heart sends condolences for the passing of Tyler.  His heart and spirit will live with me forever as what he has taught me about being a true friend, hero, and someone to talk to will never be forgotten. Last year when I taught in the middle school, I made Tyler coffee every morning, and in those short snippets, we talked about Germany, German food, and shared many stories about fishing.  He will be forever in my heart.

I remember swimming at Bert and LeRoys and all the time spent as kids with Tyler and Brandon. So many memories. If only we would have stayed more connected and created more. I will never forget the many good times we shared together. I am deeply sorry for the loss. It is so hard to understand and so many whys. Like they say God only takes the best. For Tyler's family and friends; you have my sincere condolences. I didn't know Tyler all that well. In fact, I only met him at the Rockies fantasy camp last February but he was a great teammate and ballplayer. I enjoyed listening to him talk about fishing and coaching the young wrestlers. You could tell he was passionate about both. I am sure he will be missed.

Tyler was my definition of what it meant to be a true hero.  I will forever hold him in my heart and remember the ideals that he stood for.  We had so many great discussions about American History over the past 4 years and I loved hearing his perspective about many things.  For the past several years, Tyler came in to my classes at Timberline and spoke to them about his experience in the military.  He was so great with the kids and they truly appreciated who he was and the lessons that he taught.  He has touched so many lives--both students and staff at Timberline and he will forever be missed.  My deepest condolences to his family, just know that his legacy will live on through the lessons he taught us and will forever be in our hearts.

To the Schlagel Family: I'm very sorry to read of the loss of your loved one. During times like these it's  all to easy to feel helpless and without hope. It's clear from the comments that he will be VERY missed and he was indeed loved. When my family and I experience  tragedy of this sort we often turn to the scriptures for endurance. Isaiah 25:8 and Revelation 21:4 speaks of a time when death will be a thing of the past and our loved ones will be reunited with us. Continue to beg God for endurance  until that time comes.

Gary, JoDee and Brandon,My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family. Tyler was a dear friend and I will remember him always. From watching him play football on Friday nights to all of the fun at the fair each summer. My favorite memory of Tyler was all of the hugs that he gave no matter where we were, walking into class, running into each other after practice or on the field after the football game. He will truly be missed.

Words just can't say how we feel.Our families have been close for many years going thru Happiness to Sadness. You are wonderful parents and an awesome brother.Tyler grew up to be an amazing Man. I send my love and peace to your family. I just found out about Tyler,s passing. I am so sorry. The death of a child is so very hard to understand. I can't imagine what you are going through. Please lean on your faith, family, and friends for comfort. When I knew Tyler had joined the Marines, you can bet Grandpa Leroy was beside him everyday, and he will be forever. His service to his country will never be forgotten. My heart breaks for Tyler's family. Prayers to all. 

I am so glad I had the opportunity to visit with Tyler at the Schlagel picnic this past summer.  I was so happy to hear all about him enjoying his summer doing something he loved, fishing, and sharing his passion for it with others.  I believe he is at peace on the most beautiful mountain sharing endless fishing stories with his Grandpa Leroy.  Gary, JoDee and Brandon, you are in our prayers, so very sorry for your loss.  

 Our hearts are broken, we are sending you prayers for strength and healing.As we just found out Friday......we have wept endlessly.   Tyler will always be special in our hearts, he was an amazing spirit and touched many people.  We had to cancel our flyfishing trip in June with him.....and now realizing that moment has past......makes us so sad we did not reschedule with him because we got busy farming.
