Vernon "Vern" Ray Schoep

He was born February 16, 1936, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Matilda Schoep. Vern received both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in engineering from the University of Nebraska. He also met his wife, Janis, at the University of Nebraska, Vernon and Janis were happily married for forty-two years until Janis’ death in 2000. Vern and Janis had four wonderful children, David, Martin, Charles, and Kristen.

Vern enjoyed a long career as an electrical engineer, primarily working for Ball Aerospace in Boulder, Colorado. He was an avid traveler, having visited many countries and all seven continents. Vern also loved fly fishing. He spent much of his retirement planning and enjoying float trips with friends and family.

Vernon is survived by his three sons, David, Martin, and Charles; his longtime companion, Laures Runnels; as well as 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Clifford and Gerald; his sister Mary; wife Janis; and daughter Kristen.

A Celebration of Life for Vern will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado, 80501. Following the service, a reception will take place at 11:00 am in the Howe Mortuary Reception Room at the same address.
