
Victor W. Peterson, formerly of Longmont and Aurora, died March 15, 2014 at LifeCare Center of Longmont. He was 94 years old.He was born September 19, 1919 in Sterling, Nebraska to Victor I., and Marie T. (Phann) Peterson.Victor served in the United States Army during WWII. He saw action in the European Theater with the 35th Infantry Division. He received a battle field commission to 2nd Lieutenant from General George Patton. He was awarded the Purple Heart, two Oak Leaf clusters and the Bronze Star.Following his honorable discharge he married Elizabeth Hays Jackson. They moved to Longmont in 1948 from Nebraska, residing here until Elizabeth's death January 28, 1961. At that time Victor was working for Fitzsimmons Army Medical Hospital in Denver and the family moved to Aurora. He married Louise Hughes Hackley on April 4, 1964. Louise also preceded him in death on June 23, 2003.At Fitzsimmons Victor began as a carpenter and worked his way up to the position of chief building engineer. He retired in 1980.Following his retirement Victor and Louise split their time between Arizona in the winter and Estes Park, CO in the summer. Victor enjoyed the work he put into building his mountain cabin.He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Longmont, CO and in Arizona. He was also a member of B.P.O. Elks 1055 in Longmont. In Arizona Victor gave many volunteer hours to the Lions Club and organizations helping veterans. He enjoyed dancing and bowling.He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two brothers and four sisters.Victor is survived by six children Dalene (Bill) Sheeder of Longmont, Kay Orona of Aurora, Ruth Peterson (Stephen) Colby of Boulder, Jim (Jackie) Hackley of Sedona, AZ, Cheryl (Sam) Demuth and Carol Peterson of Aurora; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at a later time.
