March 23, 1937January 5, 2019

Victor Trujillo of Firestone, passed away at The Peaks Care Center on January 5, 2019. He was 81 years old. He was born March 23, 1937 to Jake and Josephine (Chavez) Trujillo. Vic grew up in the small town of Vollmer, Colorado. He attended the local Ft. Lupton schools.

After high school, Vic went to work as a mason. With his family, he did masonry work on several homes in the Weld County area. He was especially proud of the stonework he did on the altar at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Vic later went to work for Gardner Denver. He worked there for 19 years until the plant closed. He would go on to work for Rocky Flats retiring in 2000.

Vic was always very active volunteering in many capacities for which he was very proud. He was a volunteer driver for the Tri-Town ambulance in the 1970's and performed volunteer work with the Lions Club Food Bank and the 9 Health Fair. He was instrumental in starting a competition with the schools collecting food for the food bank. In 2008, he was the recipient of the Channel 7 Everyday Hero award. He thoroughly enjoyed working the bingo alley to raise money for the Lions Club.

Vic was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. In addition, he belonged to the United Steel Workers Union for over 50 years. Despite his busy involvement with these organizations and his volunteer work, Vic was a devoted family man. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and watching them participate in athletics. He was their biggest fan!

In his late teens, Vic met a young lady named Ida Martinez. He would take her on their first date at Tomato Days in Ft. Lupton. Vic and Ida would go on to get married on October 20, 1956 in Frederick, Colorado. They would be blessed with five children.

Vic is survived by his children, Rosalie Chavez of Firestone, Jim (Tina) Trujillo of Frederick, Don Trujillo of Firestone, Debbie (Mike) Monarch of Brush, Ed (Christina) Trujillo of Dacono; 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and siblings, Steve (Paulette) Trujillo and Susan (Vic) Sailas of Ft. Lupton. Like his own family, he dearly loved and was always very close to his wife’s side of the family. In addition to his parents, Vic was preceded in death by his wife, Ida; brother, Charles Trujillo and sister, Ruth Ann Trujillo Grajeda.

Visitation for family and friends will take place 6pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 436 Fifth Street in Frederick. Rosary prayers will be recited at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held 11am, Friday, January 11, 2019, also at St. Theresa’s. Vic will be laid to rest with his wife at Foothills Gardens of Memory in Longmont.
