Wallace 'wally' Goranson

Wallace Albert ""Wally"" Goranson, of Lyons, Colorado, died Thursday, April 6, 2006 at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville. He was 79 years old.Wally was born August 31, 1926 in Fraser, Colorado, to David L. and Alma (Larson) Goranson. His parents had emigrated from Sweden in 1913. In 1928, he moved with his family to Lyons, where he grew up and graduated from Lyons High School.In 1942, he joined the Merchant Marines and later served in the US Army. After his honorable discharge in 1957, Wally returned to Lyons and worked with his father at Goranson Lumber. Twenty-six years of Wally?s career was spent with Great Western Sugar Company where he set up and operated various machine shops. After his retirement, Mr. Goranson worked at Longmont Foods and later opened his own business, Wally's Machine Shop, in Lyons. On June 9, 1961, Wally married Barbara Grimes Mixon in Boulder, Colorado.Wally enjoyed gaming at the casinos in Black Hawk and traveled to towns such as Deadwood, South Dakota, and Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening.Survivors include his wife, Barbara Goranson of Lyons; five sons, Albert (Linda) Goranson of Lyons, David (Pam) Goranson of Lyons, Harold (Kim) Mixon of Washington, Scott Mixon of Wheatridge, Colorado, and Glen (Kim) Goranson of Lyons; two daughters, Linda (Barry) Johnson of Lyons, and Jackie (Steve) Noblit of Pennsylvania; and two sisters, Florence Griffith of Estes Park, Colorado, and Helen Etchison of Washington. He is further survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eunice Jean Snider; and a brother, Carl Goranson.Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10 at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Monday. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at Lyons Cemetery with David Bradshaw officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.
