Born July 3, 1940, in Cincinnati, Wayne was a lifelong fixer, storyteller, traveler, and friend to just about anyone who crossed his path. He never met a stranger, and if he did, they usually left knowing at least one good story. To his grandchildren, he was simply “Papaw” — a steady presence, full of advice, humor, and an unwavering belief that hard work could fix just about anything.
Wayne began his career as a semi-truck driver, traveling across the country and collecting stories along the way. In the 1970s, he joined his father, Ray, in the family business, Todt’s Mower Sales & Service, located on Hamilton Avenue. In 1985, Wayne relocated the business just a mile north on Hamilton Avenue, where it continued to operate until his retirement in 2007.
Wayne could repair or build nearly anything. If something was broken, he believed it could be fixed — and usually by him. His solution to most of life’s problems was simple and consistent: “Work.” It wasn’t just advice; it was the way he lived.
In his later years, Wayne relocated to Colorado, where he spent time near Longmont. He valued his independence and remained intentional about living life on his own terms. He shared companionship with Marybelle in his later chapter, and her memory remained meaningful to him after her passing in December.
He retired in 2007 but never truly slowed down. He loved fast rides, bluegrass music, finishing every bite on his plate, and telling stories — whether you asked for one or not. He lived fully and deliberately, making friends wherever he went.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Ray Todt.
He is survived by his daughter, Jaime Todt; his beloved grandchildren, Alex and Dominic; and extended family who will carry forward his stories, his humor, and the lessons he repeated often.
Memorial details will be announced at a later date. Those who knew Wayne are encouraged to honor him in the way he would have appreciated most — work hard, lend a hand, enjoy the ride, and hold your family close. For those who called him Papaw, Dad, or Pops, his stories and steady voice will always echo a simple truth: Keep going, and do the work.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.howemortuary.com for the Todt family.
