

Wendell Eugene Beavers ""Gene"" of Longmont died December 16, 2008, at his home He was 78 years old.Gene was born October 10, 1930, in Lewis, Iowa. His parents were Cloyd Lee Beavers and Stella Opal Cooksey Beavers. After graduating from Allerton High School in 1948, he moved to Webster City, Iowa, to work at Beam Manufacturing. On June 16, 1951, Gene married Virginia Jeanne Houston and to this union three sons were born. Sammie Eugene, Randy Joe, and William Glenn Beavers. This marriage ended in 1977.On October 25, 1951, he was called to Service during the Korean Conflict (War). He served as Master Sergeant in Company ""L"", 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division for the United States Army. He was awarded a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in connection with military operations against army enemy in Korea. On July 24, 1953, he was discharged at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After his discharge, he returned to Webster City, before moving to Allerton, where he made his home.Gene went to work in the Wayne County Engineers Office in Corydon, Iowa. He also became interested in calling Western Style Square Dancing and gave lessons in many towns and called for many clubs throughout Iowa and Missouri. He was invited to call at Chicago, Omaha, Denver, and Minneapolis National Conventions. He was also a member of the Iowa Square Dance Association. Gene enjoyed raising livestock, owning rental properties, and especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.After retiring from Wayne County Engineers Office he moved to Longmont, where he has spent the last 19 years with his companion and friend, Norma Arnold.Gene enjoyed playing golf after retirement and worked at Aunt Alice's Kitchen as a night manager and a starter at Sunset, Twin Peaks, and Ute Creek Golf Courses, to keep busy and the opportunity to mingle with the general public. He always had a smile and was quick to exchange a handshake or hug.Preceding him in death are his parents, Cloyd and Opal Beavers; brother, Wayne Beavers; and son, Randy Joe Beavers.Surviving are his companion Norma Arnold; Children - Sammie Eugene Beavers and fiancé, Dawn; William Beavers and wife, Cheryl; Nicki Arnold; Kenny and Michelle Arnold; Teresa and Dan Castor; Debbi and Guy Gardner. Grandchildren - Sam Beavers, Jr.; Cathy and Brent Norton; Erin and David Paugh; Joe and Chelsea Beavers; Andy Beavers; Holly and Jason Dent; Secely and Brian Lehman; Dina and Dustin Dunklee; Lorna and Brad Fisk; Tyler Arnold; Erika Arnold; Jordan Stevenson; Justin Castor; Devin Castor; Randi Gardner, Carli Gardner; Jessi Gardner. Great grandchildren – Alison Norton; Sami Norton; Eliana Beavers; Brooks Paugh; Josie Paugh; Connor Lehman; Josie Lehman; Ella Dunklee; Savannah Ferguson; Colton Fisk; Ava Fisk..A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Crematory.Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with T.R. Sherfoygan of Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties officiating.
