Wilfred Bill Wayne Downs

Wilfred Bill Downs, 86, of Longmont, CO died July 4, 2014. Bill was born on July 4, 1928 in Cerro Gordo, Illinois to Fred and Zella Francis (Poling) Downs. After graduating from high school, Bill served in the U. S. Army from 1949 to 1953. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War; and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. On March 7, 1953, Bill married Shirley Rose Seifts.Bill and Shirley moved from Illinois to New York where he worked for Firestone Peelor Motor Service in Poughkeepsie. Bill and Shirley also ran the TempTee Freeze for 15 years. They lived in a house at Lake Desolation for many years where they enjoyed their many friends.Bill belonged to the Crum Elbow Gun Club and served as president for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He had many wonderful snowmobile trips with friends.Bill is preceded in death by his parents and sister Joann Ard.Bill is survived by his wife Shirley of 61 years, of Longmont, CO, daughter Gail Hahn of Longmont, CO grandson Brian Galas (Sylvia) of Commerce City, CO and 3 great-grandchildren Erik, Elysia and Marcus Galas of Commerce City, CO.A Celebration of Life picnic will be held at the Rough and Ready Park, 301 E. 21st Avenue, Longmont, CO at 12 noon on Saturday, July 19, 2014.
