Mieneke was born Wilhelmina Mathilda Petronella Maria Bongaerts on February 15, 1938 in Swalmen, Netherlands. She was the only child to Henri Petrus Hubertus Bongaerts and Anna Hubertina Petronella Wilms. She modeled and studied Textiles in Maastricht, Netherlands where she met her future husband, Jan Roeland Zwerver III. They married in Holland, and shortly thereafter immigrated to the United States. After a short time in Los Angeles, California they moved to Dallas, Texas where they had three children, Jan, Saskia, and Bart. After a decade, her husband, Jan became very ill and suffered for many years. He passed away on December 13, 1984. With a sick husband and eventually widowed with three teenagers, Mieneke became one of the strongest and most resilient persons someone could know. Later as an empty nester, she faced many health battles, but always overcame life’s speedbumps. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends, and especially loved her animals.
Mieneke is survived by her three children, five grandchildren and their spouses; son Jan Roeland Zwerver IV, wife Kimberly, grandchildren Nicholas and Hanna of Flower Mound, Texas; her daughter Saskia Willemien Zwerver Ossorio, husband Alfonso, grandchildren Anneke and her husband Justin, Mattijs and Alexander of Lafayette, Colorado; and son Bart Jan Zwerver and wife Lisa of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
In lieu of any flowers or service, Mieneke would prefer any contribution of time or money to any animal organization for the betterment of animal lives and safety. She supported DFW Humane Society, a no kill animal organization in North Texas. www.dfwhumane.com/donate/
