Wilma Ann Cobb, loving daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother, passed on to her eternal home on January 13th, 2022. She passed peacefully at home, with her family nearby. She was 87.
The fourth of ten children, she was born in Damar, Kansas to Simon and Alma Davignon on June 25th, 1934. She grew up on a farm outside Damar with her parents and 9 siblings. Being born during the Great Depression, she learned and lived the values of thriftiness, hard work, and neighborliness. When her youngest brother, Ivan, was born, he was small and weak, given little chance of survival. Wilma took it upon herself, at 12 years old, to feed him with a spoon (not a bottle), until he gained what he needed to live. Through that act of love, she saved his life.
She married Ellis D Cobb, her beloved husband of more than 59 years, on November 17th, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Damar, Kansas. They lived in Luray and Bogue until they moved their young family of six to Longmont, Colorado in 1959. They lived there for 19 years, growing their family to nine, working hard, and raising their children.
Wilma and Ellis moved to Durango, CO in 1978 with their 2 sons, after the loss of their daughter Tammy. They were a part of that community for 28 years. Among her achievements there, Wilma was a long time employee of Mercy Hospital and a leader of the Arthritis Support Group. In 2007, they returned to Longmont to be closer to family. She cared for Ellis until his passing in 2012. She attended St. John’s Catholic Church and was also a part of the Ladybugs Widows Group in Longmont. She especially enjoyed fellowship and hosting luncheons with the Ladybugs.
Wilma enjoyed learning new things throughout her life. Photography was a favorite for many years. She was the one who was sure to capture the memories at family gatherings. She enjoyed fashion as well and took advantage of most opportunities to get dressed up. Her sweetness and acceptance of all endeared her to nearly everyone who met her.
Through the hardships and tragedies she endured, Wilma’s faith was a hallmark to those who knew her. She loved spending time with friends and family, and God’s love was shown best through her in those times, when she gave her undivided attention and unconditional love.
She is survived by daughters Patty Cobb-Kemp of Campion, CO, Mary Calaci (Mike) of Longmont, CO and Nance Alcos (Milton) of Kailua Kona, HI and son, Christopher Cobb of Pensacola, FL; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sisters Darlene Bugner of Great Bend, KS, Mary Blasi of Wichita, KS and brothers David Davignon of Damar, KS and Ivan Davignon of Rapid City, SD.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ellis, daughter Tammy, son Eddie, daughter Susan, parents, Simon and Alma Davignon, brothers Francis, Leo and Tony Davignon and sisters Agnes Christman and Theresa Brosman.
A memorial service is scheduled on May 6th, 2022 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont at 1:00pm. A reception will follow. Details will be available closer to the service.
