Charles Bruederle

Charles Ray "Chuck" Bruederle, a beloved father, devoted and loving husband, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Louisville, KY, on February 7, 1940, Charles lived a life defined by service, selflessness, and an unwavering love for his family. He honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1980, completing two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. His dedicated military service shaped his lifelong commitment to protecting and providing for those he loved, a duty he carried with pride long after his retirement.

To know Charles was to know a friend. He truly loved being around people and possessed a rare, welcoming spirit that made everyone feel valued. He was a master storyteller who loved to talk to anyone he met, frequently forging instant, lasting connections with anyone he crossed paths with. Known for his immense generosity, he was always offering his time, wisdom, or a helping hand to those in need.

Outside of his family, Charles filled his days with the hobbies and pastimes he loved. He was a passionate craftsman who built and flew numerous radio-controlled airplanes, visiting the local hobby stores and RC fields whenever he could. He also had a vibrant love for local entertainment; he loved to go to Derby City Gaming, play Bingo, and scratch off lottery tickets. He stayed deeply connected to everyone in his life, and you could always count on him having his phone right by his side, ready to chat or share a laugh.

Above all else, Charles was the cornerstone of his family. He worked tirelessly throughout his life to ensure his family was always provided for, caring for them with the same fierce commitment he held for his country. In return, his family cherished him greatly, viewing him as their anchor, their guide, and their greatest hero. His laughter, warmth, and steady presence leave an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia (Phelps) Bruederle; his daughter, Angela B. Winn (Kevin); his cherished grandson, Kolby Winn; and his cherished granddaughter, Victoria Winn. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Elroy Bruederle, and his mother, Etta Mae (Dugan) Bruederle; his five brothers, Mickey, Butch, Donnie, Tommy, and Jimmy; and his nephew, Mickey.

Visitation to honor his life and military service will be held on September 20th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 7410 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY 40222.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charles’s honor to a veteran support organization of your choice or to the American Heart Association.
