Clyde Newman Jenkins, 94, passed peacefully on June 23, 2026, just eight hours after the passing of his beloved wife, Dale. Born in Glendale, KY to parents Clyde H. and Martha Jenkins on June 21, 1932, Clyde lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, hard work, and kindness toward others.
Known by all who met him as the perfect gentleman, Clyde was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a devoted Christian whose faith was the foundation of his life and an example to those around him.
Clyde grew up in Louisville and was a proud graduate of Valley High School, class of 1950.
Clyde dedicated 37 years of service to American Synthetic Rubber Company, where he was known for his strong work ethic. Outside of work he enjoyed spending time in the woods or on the water. While he made many hunting trips to Colorado, his passion was for time spent outdoors in the beauty of Kentucky. He didn’t always have to be hunting at Land Between the Lakes, or fishing on Rough River; he could simply sit by the creek in Glendale and be happy. If he wasn’t working, hunting or fishing you would find him tinkering in his garage, enjoying his music.
Clyde and Dale were active members of Southwest Baptist Church in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Their shared faith was the cornerstone of their marriage and the life they built together, faithfully serving the Lord.
He is survived by his son, Barry Jenkins; daughters, Janice Basham (Jake) and Deborah Bonefont; grandchildren, Harrison Basham, Sara Basham, (Niko Kampouris), Christy Behnke (Rob), Cierra Johnson, and Arianna Bonefont; sister, Patti Donald; brother, Henry Jenkins (Diane); and many nieces and nephews who loved and admired him greatly. He was preceded in death by his brothers Francis and James, and sisters Lavuan and Carol Jo.
Clyde's legacy is one of unwavering faith, love, friendship, humility, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be at Atwood Wesleyan Church, 2201 Crittenden Drive, Louisville, KY 40217. Visitation Saturday July 18th from 1:00-2:00 with Memorial Service at 2:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shively Area Ministries.
May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Dale.
