

Born in Pingtung, Taiwan on January 7, 1948, Dr. Chang dedicated 43 years to the University of Louisville and taught generations of students in the Speed School’s Computer and Engineering Department.
Dar-Jen is preceded in death by his parents, 張常鄂 Chang, Chang-O and 張李不 Chang, Lee-Pu, and his sisters, 張妙華 Chang, Miao-Hua and 張玲華 Chang, Ling-Hua. He is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Chii-fen, his daughter Florence (Tim), sons, Mark and Luke, and grandchildren, Claire and Izzy; and many extended family members, including his sister, 張壽華 Chang, Shou-Hua, and brother, 張達義 Chang, Da-Yee, loving niece Chi (Michael) and grand nieces and nephews, Kristen, Gabby, and Matthew.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Chang will be remembered for his kindness, humility, generosity, and deep devotion to his family. He took great pride in teaching and found joy in seeing his students and colleagues succeed. He was an avid U of L basketball and football fan, as well as a University of Michigan Wolverine at heart. In the last few years, he enjoyed watching his granddaughters play softball, and he loved sneaking candy and desserts to satiate his sweet tooth.
A celebration of Dr. Chang's life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY 40222. Visitation will take place that morning at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the service time.
