Elizabeth Catherine Funk

Liz was a devoted mother to three children, Carson Funk, Jolene Funk, and Mia Sims, and she cherished them more than anything. She was the daughter of Linda Funk and the fiancée of Dillon Sadler. She is also survived by her sister, Sara Shaw (Joe); her aunt, Missy Tiehl; her father-in-law, Keith Sadler; her uncle-in-law, Kevin Sadler; her niece, Finley Shaw; and her nephew, Wyatt Shaw. Liz was preceded in death by her father, Mark Funk.

A lifelong lover of animals, Liz carried a steady tenderness for horses, dogs, and every creature she encountered—there was no animal beyond her care. She found joy and purpose in the world of horses as a barrel racer and horse trainer, and she also loved the energy and tradition of race cars and hot rods, embracing the spirit of a race family. Her favorite flower was the sunflower, a fitting emblem for the warmth and brightness she brought to others.

Liz grew up with her sister Sara on a horse farm, where days were shaped by open skies and simple freedoms—playing in the woods and swimming in creeks, rivers, and ponds. That love for the country stayed with her, and she treasured the places where she could feel wild and free.

Known for a welcoming nature and an open heart, Liz never met a stranger. She offered help readily and cared for others with quiet steadiness, including serving as a loving caregiver to her grandfather-in-law. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched through her kindness, her generosity, and the deep love she held for her family.

Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, at Advantage Funeral Home – Heady Dixie, 7710 Dixie Highway. A private entombment will follow on Saturday, August 8, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5.
